Raman was returning home from work on his bike. A light rain had started—just enough for a few droplets to wet his hands. He could feel the coolness of the water.

He wore his helmet, so the rain didn’t bother him much. For a moment, he thought about stopping to put on his raincoat. But then he decided against it. “I’ll be home in twenty minutes,” he told himself. “Stopping now will waste time.”

Still, a small doubt lingered—What if I catch a cold or get a fever? He knew that might lead to a sick leave. To comfort himself, he imagined sipping hot tea or coffee once he reached home. No need to switch on the fan, he thought. He shook off the idea of the raincoat and kept riding.

After some distance, he noticed a group of people taking shelter under a bypass bridge, protecting themselves—and their phones—from the rain.

That reminded him. He hadn’t protected his own phone. He quickly pulled over, took a polythene bag from his backpack, and carefully wrapped his mobile inside it. Last time, when his phone got wet in the sink, it cost him nearly ₹2,000.

Now that his phone was safe, and the rain wasn’t too heavy, he slowed down a bit—just enough to enjoy the soft drizzle on his face and the quiet joy of riding home through the rain.
